Have Faith in 2012

There may be much media speculation and consumer cynicism about London being prepared for the Olympics but I have faith in those bods behind the building of the stadium at least.

My train passes through the Olympic site at Stratford and there's something new or different to look at almost every day.

The stadium has taken shape already and is constantly changing. Check out this BBC webcam every now and then. Bit grey and foggy today!

Real Street Art!

This was in a few of the papers and online today, and it's just amazing. Apparently Edgar Mueller, the artist, says it’s a new artform that only a handful of people do worldwide. "It tricks people's eyes and shows them a new reality."

So Irish!

Love this story from the BBC Website today.

It reminds me of a meeting I was in, about 4 years ago, in a previous job. A question was asked, one I cannot remember anymore, but needless to say it was not thought through and would be what one would class as a "stupid question." My colleague responded to this by saying, "What are you? F**king Irish?" Didn't go down too well with Breda, Niamh, Oonagh and Padriag who were sitting round the table at the time.

Moments in History....

As the oldest member on the team I was struck by the different reactions to what will be one of those ‘defining moments in history’ that happened on Tuesday – Barack Obama’s inauguration. If anyone asks my generation ‘Do you remember when……John Kennedy was assassinated or when the Berlin Wall came down the majority would be able to tell you in detail where they were and what they were doing and would also agree that they watched TV in depth when these events were being covered.

On Tuesday there was a real mixed response here in the office; about a third stopped work and watched TV, another third watched with one eye from their desks and a third were really not overly interested. Conclusion – various from inbuilt cynicism to workload and needless to say I was one of the ones glued to the television.
