Happy 80th Birthday Gorbachev!

The first president of the USSR and Nobel Peace Prize Winner Mikhail Gorbachev celebrated his 80th birthday on March 30th. His family and friends joined him to mark the occasion with an exclusive gala concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The Black Tie event was co-hosted by A-list Hollywood stars Sharon Stone and Kevin Spacey. The red carpet played host to international celebrities and politicians including Shimon Peres, the President of The State of Israel, former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and movie stars Milla Jovovich and Goldie Hawn.

The star-studded event included performances from Dame Shirley Bassey, Katherine Jenkins, Bryan Ferry, Paul Anka, Melanie C and Valery Gergiev. Other stars include Dmitri Hvorostovsky, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Scorpions to name a few.

The Gala unveiled the winners of the Gorbachev Awards, which were created to honour those people who have changed the world for the better, like Mikhail Gorbachev. The categories were:

· Perestroika (contribution to the development of global civilization) which was won by Evans Wadongo, who invented a solar powered LED lantern when he was 18, used by thousands of homes in Africa. Mr Wadongo collected his award on stage at the gala.

· Glasnost (contribution to the development of the culture of an open world) which was won by Ted Turner, founder of CNN, who was at the gala to collect his award from Gorbachev himself.

· Uskorenie (contribution to the development of modern science and technology) which was won by Tim Berners-Lee who invented the World Wide Web in 1989.

The concert also raised money for cancer charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support UK and the Raisa Gorbachev Children's Institute for Transplantology and Haematology in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Will Scougal, joins Resonate as Creative Director

Will Scougal, today, joins the management team at Resonate.

Will joins to enhance and extend its creative and digital capabilities with a particular focus on 'content creation' and integrated communications.

Michael Frohlich, MD, Resonate said, "Will is the first of the exciting hires we will be announcing in the near future. As we embark on our next chapter of growth, we see the key to successful communications is one powerful brand idea cascading through multiple channels. We look forward to Will making a real difference and opening up new channels and opportunities for the Agency and the Group."

Will joins Resonate from Mischief, where he was Head of Digital. His client portfolio included: Chevrolet Spark Unscheduled Tour; EA Games; Ben and Jerry’s; BAA Heathrow social media strategy.

Previous to that, Will was: Head of Digital Content at the Cake Group; Creative Planner at Glue London; Creative Planner at AKQA; Account Manager at Greenroom Digital.

Gorbachev's 80th Birthday Celebrations

A quarter of a million pounds was raised for The Gorbachev Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support at a charity auction at Christie's London. Hosted by Mikhail Gorbachev's granddaughters Anastasia Virganskaya and Ksenia Gorbacheva, guests such as Countess Isabelle von Trapp, David Montgomery, Noelle Reno, Kay Burley, Amy Molyneux (PPQ) and Daniella Issa Helayel sipped champagne and nibbled on delights from Mosimann.

Auction lots included a stunning Faberge ring, a Rolex watch belonging to Mikhail Gorbachev, an Omega watch given by Mr Gorbachev to his late wife, Raisa on their wedding anniversary and a 10 night voyage on The World luxury yacht.

Other lots included two boxes at The Royal Albert Hall for the gala concert on 30th March 2011, one of the lots sharing the experience with Mr Gorbachev and his family as they celebrate his birthday.

The charity auction was part of celebrations in the lead up to Mr Gorbachev's 80th birthday gala concert to be held at The Royal Albert Hall in March this year. Hosted by Sharon Stone and Kevin Spacey, the concert combines performers from East and West including Bryan Ferry, The London Symphony Orchestra, Katherine Jenkins and The Bolshoi Ballet soloists to name a few.

I wish there was something intellectual we could say about this website, and about how Grumpy has done his own interview for the site. But we can't, because we don't know what it says. He did do the interview, so we sort of know what he said, but we just can't remember. Principally Grumpy explains that you should be able to explain your idea in 100 words or less and all in 30 seconds. And then goes on to explain about Resonate's concept of Good Noise. Finally he explains the relevance of Good Noise in social media.
